Captain Jay York is a USCG 100-Ton Master and the proud founder and owner of Mystic Rose Charter Fishing, established in 2008. With over 50 years of fishing experience, Jay's lifelong passion for the ocean has shaped every part of the Mystic Rose experience.
Jay's fishing journey began at just ten years old aboard his father's boat, The Compass Rose, off the Northeast coast of New York. His father, Captain Jesse York, was a respected fisherman who targeted everything from flounder, striped bass, and cod to giant bluefin tuna, marlin, swordfish, and sharks. These early years laid the foundation for Jay's deep respect for the sea and the charter fishing tradition.
For over 20 years, Captain Jay made his living as a commercial rod-and-reel fisherman, specializing in yellowfin, bigeye, and giant bluefin tuna. He later relocated to Jupiter, Florida, where he spent three decades in the deep sea charter fishing industry, operating charters out of both West Palm Beach and Jupiter.
Though he no longer captains the Mystic Rose fulltime, Captain Jay York remains the full-time operator of the business, overseeing every aspect to ensure the same level of professionalism, expertise, and customer care that made Mystic Rose a trusted name in Florida.
Today, Mystic Rose continues to reflect Captain Jay's lifelong dedication to fishing, built on a legacy of experience, integrity, and a deep love for life on the water.
Captain Alex is a proud Florida native and USCG 100-Ton Master Captain whose love for fishing began at a young age. Growing up with a rod in hand and a passion for the ocean, he spent his early years fishing the waters around South Florida, honing the skills that would later define his professional career.
In 2010, Alex was working as a chef at The Breakers, one of Palm Beach's most prestigious resorts. Though he was successful in the culinary world, his heart was never far from the water. Craving a more hands-on, outdoor lifestyle-and a return to his fishing roots-Alex made the bold decision to change careers. That same year, he joined Mystic Rose Fishing Charters as a mate, where his natural talent, strong work ethic, and enthusiasm quickly stood out.
By 2012, Alex earned his USCG Captain's License and began running trips aboard the Mystic Rose, sharing his passion for deep sea fishing with guests from around the world. His approachable personality, technical expertise, and focus on creating fun, memorable experiences made him a favorite among repeat customers.
In 2016, Alex briefly stepped away from Mystic Rose to explore charter opportunities closer to home. But it didn't take long to realize where he truly belonged. That same year, he returned to the helm of the Mystic Rose, recommitted to the boat and brand that helped launch his career.
Since then, Captain Alex has been an integral part of the Mystic Rose team, leading countless successful charters and helping grow the company's reputation for excellence. Whether guiding families, first-time anglers, or seasoned offshore veterans, Alex brings passion, patience, and deep local knowledge to every trip-ensuring guests leave with fish in the cooler and smiles on their faces.
Captain Rip Munsterman is a USCG 100-Ton Master Captain, Florida native, and the webmaster behind Mystic Rose Charter Fishing. Born and raised in North Palm Beach, Rip's passion for fishing began in the 1980s while spending weekends on the water with his grandparents, Bea and Otto Feldt. Those early experiences laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong dedication to saltwater fishing and customer service on the ocean.
At the age of 15, Rip began his career in deep sea fishing after the owners of a local party boat, Harry and Dickie Nagel, out of Riviera Beach, FL took him under their wing in 1990. After a year of seasonal training, they allowed him to begin working the deck as a mate. At that time, he was one of just two mates responsible for assisting up to 50 customers per trip-rigging bait, cleaning fish, untangling lines, and helping create memorable fishing experiences for both first-timers and seasoned anglers.
After several years on the water, Rip stepped away from fishing to pursue a career in Information Technology. However, the call of the sea proved too strong, and he returned to the industry in 2004-rejoining the same party boat company he started with, this time with a renewed sense of purpose and maturity.
In 2008, Rip earned his Captain's license and transitioned away from party boats to focus on running smaller, private charter boats accommodating up to 12 guests. This shift allowed him to deliver more personalized, hands-on fishing experiences for families, groups, and serious anglers alike.
Since then, Captain Rip has worked as a full-time charter boat captain in Jupiter, including spending 13 years with another successful charter operation. With decades of experience, deep local knowledge, and a friendly, professional approach, Rip continues to provide unforgettable trips off the coast of Jupiter and West Palm Beach-helping both visitors and locals reel in the fish of a lifetime.
